Competition
Resources are needed for every environment, some of the most popular resources in Krakatoa are orchards, rain forests, uplands, drylands, open grass, swamps, and fish ponds. Considering that when the volcano erupted, it destroyed two thirds of the island, and covered that still remaining with dry lava, all these resources were obliterated, and took decades to recreate by the process of succession.
Interspecific competition is when two entirely different species compete against each other for one thing, such as an owl and a robin fighting over a hole in a tree for their home. After succession, the island began to grow back many years after the volcano, and because of coming back from complete destruction, the animals are not as numerous as before. Therefore, interspecific competition was affected because there will be much less animal species to compete agianst, due to most of them are still in state of exponential growth.
Intra-specific competition is when two or more organisms compete with each other from the same species. Again, after succession occurred and organisms start to live on the island again, intra-specific competition starts to happen almost immediately. Similar to interspecific, intra-specific will be much more reduced because of the lack of numbers in the populations. However, taking into consideration that interspecific requires multiple species, that may or may not exist on the island yet, intra-specific only requires one species, therefore will have a low, but still higher rate than interspecific competition.
