Trophic Levels
Obviously the sun is a main energy source for the trophic levels. In addition, ferns, bamboo, moss, and palm trees are also very important primary producers. These all are very important for many reasons, one of which being is feeding the primary consumers.
These primary consumers consist of herbivores that eat the producers. Some of the most common are insects, spiders, fish, parrots, and small rodents. Just like it should, these consumers eat the producers, and then are eaten by secondary consumers
The Secondary consumers are usually omnivores, but can sometimes be just one or the other. Some of the most common secondary consumers are bats, amphibians, reptiles, and specific insects known as "predator" insects, all of which eat these primary consumers.
Tertiary consumers are the organisms at the top of the food chain. The big bad killers of the pyramid. These guys generally are carnivores, but of course there is always a chance of one not being so. Some common Indonesian tertiary consumers are snakes, meat eating mammals, and jaguars.
Detritivores however, are the organisms that eat dead stuff. Some popular ones are worms, springtails, amphipods, mites, millipedes, snails, and bacteria and fungi.
The impact of this volcano was catastrophic for these animals. Sense nearly every living thing was destroyed, none of the food chains held enough of the organisms to still be referenced. Therefore, just about all food webs on the island were gone after the eruption.
